Dear Year 8 Pupils & Parents

May I on behalf of the Pupils, Staff and Board of Governors, take this

opportunity to welcome you to Saint Kevin’s College. I hope you find

this page purposeful in providing you with a brief insight into school life.

At Saint Kevin’s College we believe the 7 years a child spends at post primary

school should be enjoyed and treasured in their own right whilst also laying the

foundations for all other stages of a young person's life. We provide our

pupils with a program of 32 GCSE & 27 A Level subjects embracing all aspects

of the Northern Ireland Curriculum. Enabling each pupil to attain his/her

full potential – academically, morally, socially, and physically – in a happy and

caring environment.

We see our School community as a family. I am privileged to lead a team of 125 highly skilled, experienced, and dedicated teaching and support staff. We also value the involvement of parents and friends of the school in working together to provide the best education that our young people deserve.

I appreciate that many parents prefer the opportunity to speak to me personally about our School and how it can meet the individual needs of their child. If you would like to make an appointment to see me and visit the School, please contact the School office at any time.

Please see my Powerpoint here detailing all the things we offer here at Saint Kevin's College. The Pupils and Staff look forward to getting to know your child and you.

P7 to Year 8 Transition!

My name is Mrs Thompson and my role is to oversee the transition from P7 into Year 8. Our aim at St. Kevin’s College is that all new pupils find this change fun, informative and seamless. We also aim to provide parents with relevant information as this may be a new experience for the whole family. I cannot wait to meet our prospective students at our school open night, and I very much look forward to getting to know the young people during the induction days and summer scheme!

Mrs A Thompson, Head of Learning & Teaching including P7 Transition

At St. Kevin’s College we recognise that the transition between KS2 and KS3 needs to be a smooth one. At the end of each academic year, we are delighted to invite our incoming Year 8 pupils into the school for a taster day so they can acclimatise to their surroundings before their official start in September.

These days are packed with fun activities such as Science experiments, arts and crafts and Home Economics. These taster sessions offer pupils the opportunity to meet other students and begin building friendships, meet St. Kevin’s College staff including members of the Year 8 Pastoral Team and get a tour around the school building.

Parents are also invited to attend information sessions to receive key information regarding school life. We firmly believe that this opportunity is a vital piece to the foundation of an informed transition for all students and parents involved.

The Summer School was great.  We got to spend time together as a year group and we were able to get to know each other before the rest of the school started back in September.

There are lots of people in my year group so it's been really easy to make lots of new friends.

One of the best things about St. Kevin's is the amount of after-school clubs.  There are a lot of choices such as: Gaelic, soccer, cookery and an English writing club.

If ever you need help or support then there is always someone there for you.

There is a lot of variety in our P.E. lessons and I've really enjoyed the basketball and football.

All the staff are very kind.  They are happy to help you if ever you don't understand something.

Year 8 Summer Scheme

We are looking forward to hosting our Summer Scheme 2024. This will take place in August and more information will be available soon!
