The GCE in Health & Social Care is an ideal qualification for those students who want a broad background in health, social care and early years, which will allow them to progress to further or higher education or move into appropriate employment within the health and social care sector. The GCE in Health & Social Care has been designed to allow learners to develop an understanding of the diverse nature of the health & social care sector.

ASSESSMENT:

Year 13 (Students take all)
Unit AS 1: Promoting Positive Care (P)
Unit AS 2: Communication in Health, Social Care and Early Years Settings(P)  
Unit AS 3: Health and Well- Being (E)

Year 14 (Students take all)
Unit A2 3: Providing Services (E)
Unit A2 4: Health Promotion (P)  
Unit A2 5: Supporting the Family (P)  

METHOD OF ASSESSMENT
Each unit is assessed by one method only – either an externally assessed written paper (E) or a portfolio (P) is built up from a number of assignments.

OTHER INFORMATION

Students need to be self-motivated as extra effort and work are an integral part of the course. 

An interest in the subject and a commitment to work are, however, the most desirable criteria.
